Heel Pain in Kids? It Could Be Sever’s Disease

AC Podiatry is South Australia’s exclusive provider of Solemaids® insoles

If your child is active in sport and suddenly starts limping, walking on their toes, or complaining of persistent heel pain — it could be Sever’s disease, one of the most common causes of heel pain in growing kids and teens.

At AC Podiatry, we offer a clinically proven, pain-relieving solution that keeps your child in the game, not on the sidelines.

What is Sever’s Disease?

Sever’s disease (calcaneal apophysitis) is a painful condition caused by inflammation in the growth plate of the heel. It typically affects children aged 8–14 who are going through growth spurts and are physically active — especially in high-impact sports like football, basketball, gymnastics, or running.

When the heel bone grows faster than the muscles and tendons can adapt, it creates tension that leads to inflammation. This is made worse by the repeated impact of sports and physical activity.

Relief Without Rest – Introducing Solemaids®

Most traditional treatments for Sever’s disease focus on rest and limiting activity — but that’s not always a practical or welcome option for active kids.

That’s why we’ve partnered with Solemates to offer Solemaids® — a world-leading insole solution clinically proven to reduce pain while keeping kids active.

How Solemaids® Work

Solemaids insoles are custom-fitted to suspend the rear part of the heel, reducing pressure on the growth plate. This provides immediate pain relief and allows your child to continue participating in sport — without t further damaging the heel.
